So Tonya over at Budget and the Beach, and John over at Frugal Rules had some awesome posts about the worst jobs they ever had. Of course, I had to share mine!
The Yuck Factor
Way back in the day, when I was in college, I worked returns at a home improvement store. Some of the things people returned were fine, but some things…people are gross, K?
Do you know what a snake is? No, not the reptile. Think plumbing…think of a router that is used to unclog your toilet. Okay, are you picturing it?
Okay, now…picture a customer walking in, coming over to the return desk, and guess what they want to return? Ewwww, yes! A used toilet snake!!! They bring it in a plastic bag and it is used and gross and it smells!!! And they have the audacity to stand there and say “Uhhh, um yeah, it didn’t work”.
Really? So all those $%!* stains everywhere and in the bag, mean it didn’t work?
YOU ARE SO GROSS! And you are totally lying! You used it, unclogged your toilet, and now you want your money back!
*shudder*
I still have nightmares from that…Bleh…people are disgusting.
What’s the worst job you ever had?
Wow, I don’t know where to start on that one. I think I probably would’ve gotten myself fired for telling them what they could do with the snake. 😉 I’ve had a few doozies, but I think the one I wrote about on Monday ranks up there for me. Thanks for the mention! 🙂
You know what’s crazy? Many, many customers tried to return used snakes! It wasn’t just a one-time thing 😦 Bleh…
No problem, John!
I stood behind a guy at Home Depot once who was trying to return a broom. It was all dirty and the handle was chipped, but he said it was defective. How can a broom be defective? To the poor employee’s credit, she did look up the particular item, but they hadn’t carried it for many months. Dude used the broom for a year and then tried to bring it back. I would be too ashamed to do that, but I guess it happens a lot. At least it wasn’t a toilet part.
People will try and return anything!! They have no shame 😦
I have had soooooo many crappy jobs. The worst ones were always in food service. Greg promised me that I would never have to work in food service again!
I’ve never worked in food service, but from what I hear, everyone has a horror story working in that industry!
OMG that is disgusting!!!! My friend who works at REI has horror stories of people bringing some funked-out stuff to return, but nothing as disgusting as that! My worst jobs were definitely in food and retail – people are slobs, but it gave me empathy for anyone in those industries.
Isn’t it, though? Yuck!
Yeah, retail is one of the worst.
Ugh! I sincerely hope you did not have to touch it. The audacity of some people is astounding. Ewwww! I’m fortunate that I haven’t had any real awful jobs. I did work for dad and he was an oral surgeon so I did some ugly things there, but they still don’t compare to what you endured.
No, thank goodness I never had to actually touch it, but still! The audacity of people astounds me…
I read this as I was eating my lunch. YUCK! I would throw up if someone tried returning that.
Sorry about your lunch Michelle! 😉
I almost barfed too! So gross…
Ewww sick…. people are so insane. At least clean it first and sanitize it if you’re trying to return it, people are ridiculously rude!! I don’t really think I’ve had the fortune of having a really bad job, but my worst job was probably working at a call center, just because it was too much stress and pressure and I had to work until 2am or start at 4am while I was an engineering major in college. It was only minimum wage too..I quit after 2 months haha.
People are disgusting. Ugh…
Ha, I don’t think I’d have the patience to work at a call center 🙂
People will try to return anything these days. It says right on the packaging that you can’t return it if it has been used. Nasty. I haven’t had any nasty jobs, so I can’t really come up with any good stories.
So many people tried to return these used snakes, it was ridiculous. I still get nauseous just thinking about it…
Soooo did that gross guy get his return???
It wasn’t just one gross guy GMD!! It was many, many gross guys!! Ewwwww….. And depending on who the manager was and whether or not they had a backbone, some of these nasty people would actually get their money back.
Oh, Mackenzie, that’s disgusting!!!! Eeewww!!! My worst job ever was as a licensed cosmetologist. I worked at cheap salons, expensive salons – it didn’t matter, somebody would always come in with totally disgusting, gross, hadn’t-been-washed-in-weeks hair. But one cool story: a mom brought in her 20-something son – he had totally dirty hair, but had just been released from a stint in jail and wanted to start a new life, and his mom brought him in to get his long hair and beard cut off – he wanted to have a makeover of sorts so he could find a job. We got him finished up, and he was so cute! His eyes just gleaned with happiness when he saw himself all cleaned up. I often wonder what happened to him and if he went on to stay out of trouble.
Isn’t it gross??? So, so gross…
That’s a great story 🙂 I hope he did well for himself too!
I am actually stunned into silence. Unbelievable!
I know, right?
Oh man I bet you dealt with some really wonderful people in returns…and yes that is disgusting!
Doing returns totally sucked! People tried to return EVERYTHING!! I could do a whole post about the things people tried to return. Hmmm….blog post idea? 🙂
Yes, it is disgusting!
The worst job I ever had was never really. I enjoyed and learned something from all of my jobs. They might not all of been “the” job but I earned my wage and picked up skills along the way. Interesting what people will bring back when they are done using it and then ask for a refund lol.
Yes, that job was, let’s just say…interesting 😉
No they did not!! WOW! The things we do for money hahaha.
Yes, unfortunately they did…many people did. So gross!!
That’s beyond disgusting. It boggles my mind what people try to return–I can’t imagine even thinking about doing something like that!
I agree, it is beyond disgusting. People have no shame 😦
